The main requirement of Ego Rehab is to carefully observe your ego. You will start by studying it. We could call this egoanalysis. A good place to start is the Know Thy Ego worksheet, which I’m currently developing. Here’s a draft of it that I’ve filled it for myself:

Next, add to the worksheet, by making a full list of your ego disguises, past and present. No doubt it will be a very long list! Then when you think you’re done, give the list to someone close to you and ask them to add to it!

After you’ve listed your ego disguises, make a list of your ego’s biggest triggers. Again, you can ask a close friend or loved one to help you out here. Our egos don’t realize just how dysfunctional and reactive they are!

Now you’re ready for the very advanced practice of Ego Awareness Meditation. This can be as simple as asking yourself, “Am I in my ego right now?” Be still. Notice what comes up. Defensiveness? Denial? It takes a lot of courage to answer that question truthfully. If a voice in your head says, “No” and starts justifying itself, you’re definitely in your ego, by the way! 😲 The good news is, when you shine the light of awareness on your ego (and don’t listen to the voice in your head that denies its existence) it disappears—although it can quickly return when you’re not looking! 🫥 That’s why you need to keep looking! 👀 And meanwhile be aware of your other side, your Being side, the real you. More on that later…
