I got sucked into late night online shopping again last night. 😬 So let’s look at the ego and shopping addictions. Why does the ego love to shop and why does the ego love a deal?!

Well, there are a couple things going on here: the need for more and the need to feel special. Every ego has an insatiable appetite. It needs more of something—relationships, emotions, money, things, etc—to keep it satisfied. But in truth, nothing will ever be enough to satisfy it. That’s the ego’s hungry ghost syndrome. Again, the ego can NEVER be satisfied because it’s not real—it’s just a conglomeration of thoughts and emotions. Thus, it always feels there’s something lacking, something wrong with it and it thinks that by acquiring more relationships, emotions, money, things, etc, it can fix itself.

In many people, the ego always needs more things. Many female egos especially need more clothes, shoes, handbags, etc. 👠👗👙👒👜 So I found my “self” on Victoria’s Secret’s website last night at midnight desperately looking for more cheeky panties and the elusive “comfortable thong”! 🤨 Then my ego convinced me to cross over to Amazon and things went downhill fast! 🤣

Of course, I had a coupon code for VS and they were also offering a buy 2 get 2 free deal, so I ended up ordering from them. My ego felt very special, because I was getting a deal! Actually, a double deal!

This is what ALL merchandise marketers know: egos need to feel special. Some egos want a deal, while others feel special because they can afford overinflated luxury goods. The high end fashion industry depends on those egos!

By the way, shopping is just another form of ego intoxication—the little ego high you get from buying that next thing won’t last. Often it only lasts as long as opening the package or bringing the things home from the store.

At 1am I was sitting in my bed, still clenching my phone, still scrolling. It really is an addiction—an ego addiction! I need to maintain my phone limits. No internet after 10pm or even earlier. There must be an app for that—lol!

Eckhart Tolle says to return to the breath if you catch yourself in phone-addiction mode. He says to put the phone down when you’re done doing whatever you need to do on it. Once you’ve past that point, it goes from an iPhone to an ePhone—ego phone! It becomes an extension of your ego and the ego’s desire to keep you trapped in the cloud—the cloud of useless thinking, that is! It’s tough. I’m still working on this one too… let me know if anybody has any other suggestions…
